Just a showcase shot of my EEE 1000H in action. Using ScrotWM in this shot. You should recognize the person on the netbook skin. He is my God!

Just a lame post before crashing. This is my traditional Friday wear (seen here in my old office). Scotty takes precedence when engaging in hardware hacks and Spock it is when coding. It’s a bit too much I know. But I don’t give a damn! I get superpowers, especially when putting the blue one on. Debugging always turns out more efficient 😀 Click on the image for full view.
My Friday Wardrobe
Good night folks and till tomorrow.
I had completely forgotten about this. This is freaking awesome! Big time nerd alert! FedCon is an annual Star Trek and Sci-Fi convention that is held in Düsseldorf, here in Germany. It is Europe’s largest Trekker Convention. This time around, the event will be held between 17th of May and 20th of May. The guest list this year is a total win! I got my special tickets a while back. This will be my first FedCon experience. And by looking at the list, it will turn out to be a memorable experience. William Freaking Shatner is in the house, and so is Macgyver! Chekov, Data, Riker, Dr. Crusher, Gowran, Martok, Doral and many more.
I am hyper excited to see the Captain. I have never seen him live. I am a big fan of Macgyver/O’Neill as well. Let the party begin. My birthday falls on the 18th of May and it certainly would be the greatest birthday party ever! Period! Click on the image for details.
Nerd Alert - FedCon
Can’t wait until 17th May. Star Trek FTW! Sorry, Princess Leia. True, you adorn my wall with your life size golden bikini poster and all, but truth be told, Star Wars can’t hold a candle to Star Trek.
Spock meets The Borg
My current hobby hacking project is connected to the game, Super Star Trek. The original program was written in BASIC and Chris Nystrom wrote a C port in the 90’s. From an operating standpoint, the game is very similar to the classic game Star Trek from the 70’s (which has been part of games collection on many BSD’s by default), with a few enhancements. I have played both the games and I love them.
That got me thinking – Wouldn’t it be interesting to implement my favorite facets from Star Trek Next Generation, namely, The Borg and Q Continuum in the Original Series Universe? Since Super Star Trek is based on the original series, all I needed to do was integrate The Borg and Q in the program. Purists might disagree, but let me tell you, I am a big time trekker myself, and it’s just that I was fascinated by the mere thought of having Spock, The Borg and Q coming together. I have worked out the specifics already as to how the game would work. Spock would be the central character when one chooses to engage The Borg. Who outsmarts who is the main theme.
Anyway, I will expand on the theme later. The game will be released on May 8th, 2012. The Borg made their first appearance in the TNG episode, Q Who? on May 8th, 1989, hence, the release date. The enhanced game is still in the nascent stages, but it is coming along nicely. I am just letting my imagination run wild to come up with a strong back story for the game. As I had mentioned earlier, I am a true Trekker at heart, so I will strive the hardest to keep the premise good. I will keep you folks posted on the progress.
I am posting the fluxbox theme on display in the previous post right here. I named it Bridge, for obvious reasons. I have also included the Standard Caps font in the archive. Just move the font to your local font folder and update your font cache. If you don’t like the font, edit the font definition in the config file, theme.cfg to use your own font. If you use an overlay file globally, then simply comment out the font entry. Click on the image to download the archive from omploader.
Bridge Fluxbox Theme
Star Trek means more than just a series to me. You might have heard this from so many people and it holds true in my case as well. I took a special interest in Engineering and Theoretical Physics because of the original series. That’s why I studied both. I had lost track of it for quite a while, but took it up again a few months ago. When my ex dumped me, it was really tough. I had to find my grip again and hence, Star Trek came into prominence. This might sound silly, but it totally works in my case. Anyway, I will expand a bit on this theme later.
Since September 8th, I have been using the following setup on my desktop. Window manager is Fluxbox and the theme is a slightly modified version of my Color Me Bad theme. The primary colors of this theme are derived from Star Trek Original Series uniform colors, namely, blue, khaki and red. They might not be that accurate of course. Without further ado, here is the screenshot. Click on the image for full view.
The Enterprise bridge backdrop comes from wall 2 wall stickers. I am posting the image here as well. The ascii art come from Star Trek Ascii Art website. There are some amazing stuff over there. Please check them out. Modified my Xdefaults a bit, but still pointing towards the Technicolor palette. Also, did away with my previous zsh prompt and chose a simple rone. The fonts are Terminus (with multiple character patches) and Standard 07_57 Caps for the user interface. If anyone is interested in the fluxbox theme, just drop a note using the comment feature.
